Clinical laboratory sciences (also known as medical technology or medical laboratory science) is a biology/chemistry-based bachelor’s degree that prepares students for exciting, challenging and dynamic careers in places such as hospital labs and clinics, forensic labs, veterinary clinics, industrial research labs and molecular biotechnology labs.
Professionals in this field analyze blood, urine, tissue, and other body specimens. These test results play an important role in the detection, diagnosis, and treatment of disease.
Laboratory scientists are in high demand. And with future growth predicted to be above average for all professions, laboratory science provides solid job security.
Medical laboratory scientists are trained to work in clinical chemistry, hematology, immunohematology, immunology and microbiology, with various sub-specialties in each of these major areas. The program of study is designed to provide the knowledge and technical skills necessary to qualify an individual for work in a diagnostic clinical laboratory, research, or industry. Students complete two years of pre-professional courses in science and general education, and after admission into the Medical Laboratory Science (MLS) professional program, complete two years of medical laboratory science courses. The professional course work includes didactic courses, student laboratory instruction, and clinical experience rotations in medical laboratories in the Salt Lake Valley.

PUBLIC HEALTH SCIENCE
Public Health Science is the art of preventing disease, increasing longevity of life and promoting health through efforts and choices made by society, public and private organizations, the community and by individuals. Public Health Science deals with dangers to the public health of a population, whether small or large (i.e. populations of a continent) to improve the quality of health and the quality of life in through detecting and preventing disease and other physical and mental health conditions, promoting health behaviors, tracking cases and health indicators. Public Health Science uses a multi-disciplinary method incorporating epidemiology, biostatistics and health services.
